Tim presents details of what the FSB offer to the group

Things you never knew the FSB do!

Networking Chandler’s Ford were pleased to offer a warm ‘virtual’ welcome to Tim Brock, our local area representative for the Federation of Small Business (FSB).  Tim used his guest speaker slot at our recent online networking meeting to update NCF members on the many ways that FSB support smaller businesses.

Did you know that the FSB is now 50 years old?

A businessman called Norman Small started what was to become the Federation in Liverpool in 1974.  He rallied fellow business owners to demonstrate just how much the voice of smaller businesses matter.  Today, the FSB numbers 165,000 members across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and is one of the most influential lobbying groups for business; governments will now seek out FSB views before making decisions.

Did you know that 99% of UK businesses are small?

The FSB represents organisations employing up to 249 staff, including freelancers and contractors who don’t employ anyone.  Businesses employing less than 250 make up the overwhelming majority in the UK, with just 1% of businesses employing 250 people or more.  Makes you realise how much influence we really should have when we work together!

Did you know that the FSB is a non-profit organisation?

Although members pay a subscription, that subscription goes towards providing the legal, technical and other support on offer.  In fact, much of the FSB’s information is available for free on its website; many reports, articles and guides.  In addition, their vast template and downloads library is accessible to members and has everything any small business owner could need.  Members also have access to telephone support to help you use the templates effectively.  Many FSB events, both in person and online, are also free to attend whether you are a member or not.  Find their current event listing here.

Did you know that the FSB will pay you up to £250 per day if you’re called to do Jury Service?

They’ll also pay this compensation if a member of your team is called, too, based on their salary.  This is just one of the many ways FSB support their members.  From debt-recovery to a legal helpline (call back within the hour if you want), and from business health check tools to updates on how the budget will affect us all, the FSB have their finger on the pulse of what small and micro-business owners need.  To read the full list of member benefits, please click here.

Did you know that NCF members can get 10% off their FSB subscription?

Annual membership fees are based on the number of employees, starting from just £195 per year for those who don’t employ anyone else.  During his presentation, Tim kindly offered to give NCF members a 10% reduction – just drop him an email to ask for the code, stating that you are a Networking Chandler’s Ford member.
